In Topsfield, beach membership at Hoods Pond offers youngsters swimming lessons at a private beach. The Barn at Parson Capen House provides a great rustic venue. The Essex County Beekeepers Association is appropriately centered at the Topsfield Fairgrounds. The Fair itself is America’s oldest agricultural Fair est. in 1818. And it’s always worth a trip – a couple of hints, find a map and locate all the different parking lots in advance, and go to the fruits and veggies buildings for low cost healthy alternatives like apples and cider. And there’s a great deal on corn on the cob at one of the vendors near the pig catching arena. But with over 300 vendors to choose from, this is one fair where you won’t go home hungry or lacking in souvenirs
